Athlete Spotlight: Cindy B.

What made you choose CrossFit True?


Coach Moe said come to the gym, it’s on your way home, no excuses. Also, I was dx with (severe) osteoporosis and osteopenia (reduced bone mass). My endocrinologist told me weight lifting (builds muscle around bone) was one of the best things I could do for this (in addition to treatment). And, when I’m 90 I don’t want to be driving an electric wheelchair to Dunkin Donuts. 


How long have you been training with us?


Since April 2015


What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?


First Double Unders!


When your not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?


I am a litigation paralegal at house counsel for an insurance company. In addition to Crossfit, I do yoga, kayaking, read (love my library), I like to cook, walk my dog at the beach, see an occasional good movie, binge-watch Netflix and roller skating when feeling very brave.


How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?


Could be better, but CrossFit True has made me much more cognizant of my nutrition habits. I might though, need another Whole Life Challenge soon. 


What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises? 


Deadlift, Situps, Front Squat.


What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

What about your favorite workout?


Half Cindy. It’s half.  Though I’m not (really) a beginner, it’s a good beginner level WOD.  A doable AMRAP of ring rows (me), push-ups and air squats. It won’t kill me. It will make me stronger.




Any favorite workout songs? 


I like Rap. Snoop and Eminem. I don’t know the names of their songs.



Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?


Yes. I am physically and mentally stronger.  Staying physically fit and mentally strong is paramount  for retaining the best possible quality of life.


What are your current goals?


 To do 5 regular push-ups and to continue getting stronger in all aspects of Crossfit.


How have your goals changed since you joined? 


The first couple of times I came to the gym I thought there is no way I am going to be able to keep up with everyone else. That has not changed, but the way I think about it has. Now I think I am my only competitor. I have never been a quitter. So, my goals are to do the best I can for me. I love that True Athletics supports all levels of capability.


What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?


That I could do any of it at all. A bazillion years ago (in my twenties) a pulmonologist dx bronchiectasis (damage to airway=shortness of breath) (it is suspected from a childhood illness). He said “you weren’t planning on entering the olympics were you?”.  Nope. But CrossFit had yet to be discovered.  


What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?


Push Press 15# Dumbbells (though still challenging).
